Bush tinkle to Mr Singh"s government who survived a vote of confidence over the nuclear deal on Tuesday, July 22, 2008.Two leaders have expressed their firm support to pursue the civil nuclear deal.Bush showed sign of relief afterthe Indian parliamnt Trust vote seeked by the PM Dr Singh after the government"s left parties abruptly withdrew their support in protest of contentious civil nuke deal bteween US and India. The government survived after more than 75 MP of three out fits pulled out from the UPA coalition which needed fresh confidence vote on the floor of lower house or would have faced early elections, casting the civil nuclear deal in doubt, the hope of US revival economy in back burner.

“Both leaders expressed their desire to see the US-India civil nuclear issue move forward as expeditiously as possible," news agency Associated Press quoted US National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe as saying.

Ahead of the crucial IAEA meeting, the US today said it was confident of making “a very good case" before the UN atomic watchdog and NSG for the nuclear deal with India because of New Delhi"s impressive non-proliferation record and would “expeditiously" push the agreement in the Congress.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told reporters in Perth,

“The civil nuclear deal is important for the United States, important for India, but also important in helping to advance the nonproliferation framework, the regime in which countries are operating,"
“I think that"s why the deal has received the support of Mohamed El Baradei (chief) of the IAEA because India has a very good record on proliferation," Rice said at a joint press meet with Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith who gave the clearest indication so far that his country is ready to back the deal at the NSG despite its refusal to sell Uranium to India, asserting that they were two different issues.

After Manmohan Singh government won the trust vote, Rice said “we welcome the parliamentary vote." Rice said the US will continue to consult with countries of the IAEA Board of Governors and with the Nuclear Suppliers" Group (NSG). “But I think we can make a very good case that this is a not just a landmark deal, but a positive landmark deal," the top US official said.

Asked whether the deal will go through before the end of the Bush Administration"s term in January, Rice said “it"s certainly our hope that we can get through all of the processes and get this done in the Congress. And were going to work very expeditiously toward that goal."

Moscow, July 25 Aggressively canvassing for the Indo-US nuclear deal after the victory in the trust vote, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called up Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and apparently sought Moscow" backing at the NSG.
The telephonic conversation between Singh and Medvedev was “in development of constructive (ties), aimed at practical results talks held on the margins of the recent G-8 summit in Toyako (Japan) and they discussed a wide range of issues, including the preparations for the upcoming Delhi visit of the Russian President," according to the Kremlin.

Although the Kremlin statement did not mention the nuclear deal, but it is believed that Singh"s call to Medvedev yesterday was part of the government"s push to garner backing of key nuclear powers and members of the nuclear suppliers group (NSG) in the wake of trust vote won by the Congress-led UPA government.

Russia is a key member of the 45-strong NSG and at their meeting on the G-8 sidelines President Medvedev had reportedly assured Singh of his country"s strong backing of India"s case at the IAEA Board of Governors meet next month and NSG.
